Your Lordship that the Trustees of the will of the late Mr. Granville Sharp, namely, Sir Paul Chater and Mr. E. H. Sharp,
K.C., wrote a letter to the Government on the 12th. December, 1916, of which I enclose a copy, requesting that on the amalgamation of the several lots forming the site of the Matilda Hospital into one lot, the new lease should be for
999 years and not for 75 years, the usual tenure for land on the Peak. I enclose a copy of the reply which was sent by
direction of Sir Henry May.

The land belonging to the Hospital is comprised in three Rural Building Lots Nos. 16, 131, and 48. The original Hospital Buildings are erected on lots Nos. 16 and 31 in area 104,621 square feet, and the leases date from the 23rd. November, 1881. The Trustees acquired the conti- -guous Lot No. 48 in area 21,186 square feet and erected on it recently a Maternity Ward connected with the Main Hospital by a covered way. The lease of this lot dates from the 18th. October, 1886. The Government offered a new lense for all three lots for 75 years dating from the 23rd. November, 1882, on which the enclosed correspondence took place.
